Celebrating Harmony Week at Eaton Services Group – 17-23 March 2025

At Eaton Services Group, we pride ourselves on our wonderfully diverse team. Embracing a spectrum of backgrounds, the ethos of Harmony Week deeply resonates with us. As we operate across Southeast Queensland (SEQ) and along the Eastern seaboard, we’re privileged to be part of a region with a rich tapestry of ancestries. As of 2021, a notable 29.1% of the Gold Coast's and 27.2% of Brisbane’s population is born overseas. Furthermore, approximately 12.4% of residents across Queensland hail from countries where English is not the first language.
Harmony Week is a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate Australia’s and our own team’s rich cultural diversity.
What is Harmony Week?
It’s a time to come together, regardless of our backgrounds, and embrace the values of inclusiveness, respect, and a sense of belonging for everyone.
Harmony Week is a week to celebrate Australian multiculturalism.
Harmony Week is a community celebration.
Multiculturalism is in Australia's national interest. It is about inclusiveness, respect, and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background, united by a set of core Australian values.
Australia is one of the world's most successful multicultural countries, and our cultural diversity is at the heart of who we are.
Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths and is at the heart of who we are. An integrated multicultural Australia is an integral part of our nation's history and character.
This Harmony Week, we’re encouraging our staff to show their support by wearing an orange ribbon. It’s a small gesture that speaks volumes about our commitment to inclusivity.
When is Harmony Week Celebrated?
Harmony Week is celebrated at Eaton Services Group and throughout Australia in a week-long celebration of cultural diversity. This year Harmony Week will be celebrated from 17 to 23 March 2025.
Why Does Orange Represent Harmony Week?
Orange has been the Harmony Week colour since the first event was held in 1999. Traditionally, the colour orange relates to social communication, stimulating two-way conversations. It aids in the development of new ideas and frees the spirit of its limitations, giving us the freedom to be ourselves. At the same time, it encourages self-respect and respect for others.
While we celebrate Australia’s rich cultural diversity, it's also crucial to highlight the importance of combatting racism whenever and wherever it arises. The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD) on Friday, 21 March, reminds us of this ongoing struggle.
With around 45% of Australians born overseas or having at least one parent who was, Harmony Week provides a perfect platform for Eaton Services Group to showcase and appreciate our own cultural diversity. It offers us the chance to reflect on how our differences and similarities make our workplace stronger and more vibrant.
Let’s celebrate Harmony Week together and continue to build a community where everyone feels valued and respected. Cheers to a future filled with unity, understanding, and harmony!
Happy Harmony Week from all of us at Eaton Services Group!
